The Mariners need wins.. fast
The Mariners dug themselves a good size hole, how do they get back in contention?
The Mariners have decided to start the season teetering around .500 and digging themselves quite the large hole almost 10 games back of Texas in the AL West. Yes, we know the Rangers have been playing like absolute mad men to start the year and may not continue their 105 win pace, nonetheless the Mariners went into Texas and got smoked three days in a row showing absolutely no signs of life.
Another series loss to the Angels and the Mariners find themselves in a position at home where they need to stack wins against the Marlins and White Sox and do it in a hurry. This home stand is one of the most important of the season, right before the M’s go on the road and play the Yankees and Orioles in their respective home towns.
Now the Mariners are undoubtedly breaking the bats out finally which is nice to see, it would be even nicer if that also coincided with our pitching staff not imploding.
A great Bryce Miller outing last night backed by a whole bunch of runs was exactly what you wanted to see from the M’s. This is just a start though, we have to see the bats stay hot, and Julio ultimately make a All Star game run before the break to stay in contention.
Julio Has been hot, mildly, but still hot in the last 30 games, even in the last 15 hitting over .300 and showing off some power. You can see below that he is starting to right some wrongs of his disaster start to the year in April.
The one who has been absolutely carrying the Mariners as of late is none other than Ty France. The dude is on another planet.
Mariners fans on Twitter have had a field day with the recent struggles, but no one really can find the answers. The rotation has seen two veterans get injured and now turn to two different rookies to carry them to the playoffs, it really seems like the bats are going to have to come to life for this team to have a chance. I’m not just talking about an okay run with a few stars, we are going to need the DH and 2B positions to get fixed asap. This tweet by Nathan Bishop says it all.
Once these positions get shored up, Julio starts playing like a maniac in the best way possible and Kelenic/France keep doing their thing, we are going to be in great shape.
Stay strong. Forks up.
Let’s go boys!
